This Unit Standard will be useful to learners, working in all sectors of the economy, community organisations or Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). It will enable learners to gain insight into the role of leadership within a work context, and thus providing them with the skills and knowledge to add value to their job. This Unit Standard is intended for junior managers of organisations including team leaders, supervisors, foremen and section heads.

Learners completing this course will have access to skills and knowledge that will equip them for various supervisory and leadership roles within any organisation and leads to access to numerous fields of qualification.

The Learners who achieve competency in this learning programme will be able to:

Explaining the concept of leadership.
Differentiating between the concepts of leadership and management.
Applying leadership techniques to individuals and teams within the work context.
Understanding assertive behaviour
Evaluating the impact of leadership techniques applied
Learning provision will be given in the form of lecturing, group discussions and classroom activities over 4 days in a classroom environment. Learners are involved in various brainstorming activities before each Assessment Criteria to gauge their existing knowledge on the subject at hand.

Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in:

Communication at NQF Level 3.
